Find Accredited Respiratory Therapist Schools in San DiegoIf you want to work in California as a respiratory therapist, the first thing you must do is find a school that’s accredited by either the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The respiratory therapy program must be accredited because this is a requirement for certification.
Respiratory therapists usually earn associate degrees in respiratory therapy, although some have bachelor’s degrees. During the program, you’ll attend medical classes, work in labs and complete clinical rotations in hospitals or clinics to gain hands-on training.
Respiratory Certification in San DiegoRespiratory therapists must be licensed in all states, including California. To be eligible for licensure, you must take and pass the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification exam, which is administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Although the exam consists of both a practical and a written part, it can be taken all in one day. Effective January 1, 2015, the Certified Respiratory Therapist exam will no longer be accepted for purposes of licensure.
