How to get Certified in South Carolina
Certification is granted through The National Board for Respiratory Care. Upon successful completion of an accredited degree program, candidates must complete and application for certification. Once the application has been accepted, the candidate can schedule online for their certification examination. In addition to gaining certification, successful candidates will be granted enrollment into graduate classes that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.Certification is valid for 5 years. Within 6 months of renewal, certified respiratory therapists must complete required continued education units with an accredited higher education institution. Continued education units will continually provide respiratory therapists with current state of the art evaluation and treatment plans along with any other changes to the industry.
